Did you know that Samphire grows in Dublin Bay?/ September 2016

One of the plants covered by the tide on sheltered shores of Dublin Bay is Samphire (or Salicornia).

It is a wild plant that has recently become a fashionable food in delicatessens. This is an annual plant, germinating on muddy sand and it is a pioneer for salt marsh vegetation. You can see it from the causeway to the Bull Island and on the shore at Booterstown.
