For Niamh, pursuing a career in teaching has brought her back to the community where she grew up. Today, she is a primary school teacher at St. Joseph’s Primary School in East Wall, helping educate and support the next generation of young people in her local area.
In 2018, Niamh was awarded a Dublin Port Scholarship while studying Primary School Teaching at St. Patrick’s College, DCU Drumcondra. As the first person in her family to attend college, progressing to third-level education was an amazing achievement, but like many students, balancing the demands of her studies and the financial pressures of college life can be difficult. The scholarship assisted Niamh in covering essential costs, including transport, a laptop and other course materials, ensuring she had the resources she needed throughout her studies.
During secondary school, Niamh had worked approximately 25 hours each week. Receiving the Dublin Port Scholarship meant she could significantly reduce her part-time working hours while attending college, giving her more time to concentrate on her coursework and academic commitments.
