Incident Response at Dublin Port

Following the fuel oil spill incident involving the Stena Hibernia at an operational berth on the eastern side of Dublin Port on the evening of 20 April, Dublin Port Company can confirm that the site is stabilised and the incident remains contained.
Work is now mobilised, and the clean-up and recovery of the area has commenced. Dublin Port is working closely with affected parties in order to provide a phased return of the berth to full use over the coming weeks.
The port’s oil spill response plan is being managed with all relevant stakeholders, including regulatory authorities and affected operators.
The main shipping channel is operational, with no disruption to the wider port area.
Dublin Port Company takes environmental protection very seriously and has put in place all appropriate boom containment which is being actively monitored in line with tidal and weather conditions.

An oil spill occurred during the refuelling of the Stena Hibernia at an operational berth on the eastern side of Dublin Port at approximately 20:05 on April 20.
The Port’s Oil Spill Response Plan was activated immediately. The source of the leak has been secured, and the spill is contained within a confined area.
Response teams remain on site and are actively managing the situation in coordination with relevant authorities, including the Coast Guard. Containment booms have been deployed, and specialist contractors are working to recover the material.
The Dublin Port shipping channel remains largely unaffected and there is no impact on other river users at this time.
Dublin Port Company takes environmental protection very seriously and our priority is the safe containment and management of the incident.
An investigation is underway to determine the cause and scale of the spill.

A fuel oil spill incident occurred in an operational berth of the eastern Dublin Port estate at 20.05 last night, April 20. The Port’s Oil Spill Response Plan was activated immediately. The leak was stopped at source, and the spill is contained within a confined area at the incident.
The relevant response teams remain onsite and are actively assessing and managing the situation in coordination with relevant authorities including the Coast Guard. Containment booms have been deployed and specialist contractors are onsite to manage and recover the material.
Daylight surveillance of the harbour is now underway.
The Dublin Port shipping channel is largely unaffected.
Port customers, drivers and passengers should follow advice from terminal operators.
Leisure users are unaffected but should continue to monitor www.dublinport.ie for updates.

A fuel oil spill incident occurred within the Dublin Port estate at 20.05 this evening. The Port’s Oil Spill Response Plan was activated immediately. The leak was stopped at source, and the spill is contained within a confined area at the incident. No casualties have been reported.
The relevant response teams are onsite and are actively assessing and managing the situation in coordination with relevant authorities including the Coast Guard. Containment booms have been deployed and specialist contractors are onsite and have been engaged to manage and recover the material.
The Dublin Port shipping channel is curtailed, and shipping movements may be restricted over the coming hours.
Port customers, drivers and passengers should follow advice from terminal operators.
As a precautionary measure, leisure users should not enter port marine area while this matter is being dealt with.
