Dublin Winter Lights: Floating Light Installation on the River Liffey

Dublin Winter Lights: Floating Light Installation on the River Liffey

4 December 2025

We’re delighted to share that, as part of Dublin City Council’s Dublin Winter Lights Festival, a spectacular floating lighting installation will be travelling along the River Liffey throughout December.

This unique River Liffey Light Boat, featuring 180 beams of light, will illuminate the city as it moves from Heuston Station to Dublin Port, bringing a magical glow to Dublin’s winter evenings. Keep an eye out for it across several evenings this month—it’s a sight you won’t want to miss!

About the Installation

  • The lights are mounted on a 10m x 4m pontoon, which will be guided along the river by a Rigid Inflatable Boat (RIB).
  • The installation will move up and down the River Liffey from Heuston Station to Dublin Port on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays throughout December.
  • Movement is tide-dependent, so journeys will pause at high tide due to low bridge clearance.
  • When not travelling, the lighting pontoon will be safely moored along the River Liffey.

Dublin Winter Lights runs from 1st to the 21st of December. You can find more details on the official Dublin Winter Lights website
